Romeo and Juliet defied their parents (there was a feud between the two families) and got married.
When Romeo got into a fight with Tybalt (Juliet's cousin) and killed Tybalt (Tybalt had killed Romeo's best friend Mercutio), the Prince of Verona banished Romeo.
So then Juliet planned with Father Lawrence to fake her death and have Romeo come and rescue her from the tomb so they could both run away and live happily together.
But the message from Juliet/Father Lawrence goes awry and Romeo doesn't hear about the plan. You know the rest.

Romeo & Juliet were in love against their families' wishes. I assume you got that much from your reading/classwork.
I won't do the work for you by listing the examples, but I will point you in the right direction:
Two young people who do not want to follow their families' dictates about who they should be, or who they should be with.
Juliet begins the denial of parental authority: See the (ever famous ) Balcony Scene...
The next morning Romeo sets in motions plans with Friar Laurence....
And of course in trying to be together at last they try to fool everyone and end up...
Hope that helps.

R & J controlled their fate by keeping everything on the DL, like their marriage. I just read this bk and personally, I didnt like it very much. Anyway, they tried to keep certain things from happening, and they also tried to fix certain things as well, like their rivalry. They fixed this by killing themselves in the end, which, I have to say, was very sad. Hope that helped.
