Wrong. If you're nice to people they will walk over you. You have to find the correct balance between niceness and practicality. You can be friendly without being "nice".

If you are nice to others they will be nice to you, most of the time. Ever heard, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."? Well, it's mostly true. There is a big difference, however in being naive and not knowing when someone is pulling the wool over your eyes. I'm not saying always expect the best or the worst but be realistic. If someone give you a bad feeling you can still be respectful, because I do believe everyone deserves respect, but you don't have to put yourself out there.

Even people that you may think don't want or need respect, the opposite is usually true. Everyone may not deserve respect but everyone feels they do.

You also catch more flies with honey than vinegar, you know?

Just be polite and respectful. You will be able to tell the really nice people from the posers.

Good luck.

in a perfect world, this is true. if God's truely on your side and ur on His, then when ur nice to someone who's mean to u, Jesus will deal with that person. but if ur just talking about the real world, i think ur right, some people will take advantage of you. still, u should be nice cuz its the right thing. not everyones the same. im sure u figured that out! hope that answered ur question.

It truly depends on the person. Some people will take advantage of your good naturedness and some will appreciate your kindness. Just keep being a good person. It's just the right thing to do.

You've been hanging with the wrong crowd. Neither of those statements are true however. Most people will be nice if you are nice to them but there are those that will take advantage of you or treat you like dirt.

I don't think it is true. I work in customer service and I'm ALWAYS nice. But most of the time people still speak to me rudely and treat me like crap. Like you I think being nice sometimes makes people take advantage of you, they perceive being "nice" as a weakness.

Not always true. I've found that on most occasions, kindness is repaid with kindness. However on some occasions, kindness was repaid unfairly and then you find out that, that person, is not to be trusted. My favorite thing to do is be kind with those who show no kindness. It is like "heaping burning coals upon their heads".

Sadly, not everyone returns the favor of being kind and polite, but you should keep being kind because it does have an immense effect on some people.

No, not always. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be nice. Why stoop to their level? Your own actions should not be dictated by what others do.
