My daughter (7 months) developed a sudden very red rash in her diaper area it stayed there for about three days before it started peeling. Then the rash spread up her stomach and onto her back but its not red like her diaper area its just red dots. I took her to the pediatrician who wasn't sure what it was she did a culture and I am still waiting for the results. Anyways today the rash is all over her and she has a low grade fever. The doctor seemed pretty certain that the rash wasn't yeast. Any ideas?

That does sound very strange.

Is she up to date with her immunities?

The fact that it's accompanied by a fever makes me think it's something else besides a regular rash. At seven months she also might be teething.

I'd let baby run around naked. Or, at least air dry between changing. I'd lay off the scented commerical brands and use a spray/squirt bottle with NO rubbing. Then, stick her in a place were she can run around naked. I do this in our bathroom since it has a tile floor. I let ds play with his bath toys. If he has an accident I have a towel and disenfectant on hand.

I know it sounds "strange" but I swear, by the end of the day his rashes are better. Also, if you have a receiving blanket you can make homeade cloth diapers. If it doesn't go away with air drying your doc will definately know it's more than the standard diaper rash.

Good Luck!! Sending healing vibes :))

Have you tried the glass tumbler test? Place the bottom of the glass on the rash, press a little and if the rash doesn't vanish for a few seconds...it's serious. I would take the baby to a hospital to get checked out, especially now that she has a fever. Rashes don't appear for no reason. Good luck

Well we have to wait for the result of culture, normally a rash that wont heal easily can either be bacterial or yeast infection.

im going through the same thing. take her to the childrens hospital instead, forget the family doctor right now. it might be impetigo, infants uptopic dermatitis. very serious. ask for a prescription called aristocort 0.1% cream. then ask for blood work and allergy tests. this is my 4 month of fighting with the doctors and endless sleepness nights. this could lead to kidney problems along with liver. childrens hospital will prescribed the antibiocs she needs. email me if you need moreinfo. jamiehamster@yahoo.ca. good luck

did you call the doc back to say it had spread and that there was now a fever? no i agree with doc it's not yeast, the fact that it spread makes me think an allergy to a cream or lotion or soap you are using and the fever may or may not be related, maybe even a food allergy
