The only war I've ever supported was the Rebel Alliance's against the Empire. Other than that, I don't see the need for war.

Would you be happy to be speaking German and wondering when the Gestapo was going to come knock down your door and arrest you for owning star wars movies?

In a perfect world there would be no war, but our world just isn't perfect. We hope and pray that diplomacy will establish peace. We have a terrible time even establishing peace within our own families. Unfortunately, our children do not accept our values. Then there is sibling rivalry, which a good many of the wars between England & France were about. There will alway be those with a lust for power and even aggression and of course money which equates power.

Maybe there has been peace in the world for a minute or two. But History has been a continual record of wars.

Good Wars? No. Necessary wars? Debateable. But there will always be wars. Absolutely. I wish you could convince me otherwise.

I cannot believe that war is the best solution. No one won the last war and no one will win the next.
Eleanor Roosevelt

If we let people see that kind of thing, there would never again be any war.

War is a crime against humanity.

Wars are never any good. They always create more problems than they solve, one war often paving the way for the next.

They are almost always fought for reasons different to those claimed by the people waging them.

There will always be conflict, but human beings are capable of resolving conflict without resorting to war. However, the only way that war will be abolished is through the refusal to fight of those called upon to do so.

It is possible. As a famous politician once said (whose name for the moment escapes me), all it needs is the political will.

War is necessary to counter the oppression of a maniacal dictator. The French revolution was a class struggle for basic rights and freedom, so was the USA's Revolutionary War.

The world went to war twice to protect itself from German aggressions. Once against Japan, China, and Italy. Earlier in history, the world fought against Rome, and before that against Greece and Philistines.

Churchill remarked that war is necessary for free people to remain free. Descartes had some good and bad things to say about it.

I suppose, the good of war depends on who wins the war. The winner gets to write the history books.

War is basically failed &/or diplomacy. If the the treaty if Paris in 1919 had never been put together so poorly by diplomats WW2 & the current Mideast problems probably would never have happened. That's how powerful treaties & diplomacy can be and when they fail war becomes the only "diplomatic" solution but only because the diplomates screwed up.

Hmmmmm.... American Revolution, World War two come to mind right off the bat. To a lesser and arguable extent, Civil War and the War of 1812. But I guess founding a free country and stopping a tyrant from dominating Europe and slaughtering jews don't fall on you list of "good wars". You seem like the type that would watch his own mother get raped and do nothing to stop it, since violence is the tool of the simple minded dullard. This is why we are destined to die as a country.

Unfortunately there is a good side to wars. One is the economy, it is usually very good during a war because of supply and demand. When we are at war, we need more products. Wars thin populations. As in other wars, because of the pressures of war, usually there are more inventions medically, tools and products then there ever is when there isn't any war. I'm not saying war is a good thing, just there are good things that come out in a war.

You sound like a product of modern education. You really need to read some books on the history of war. Go to the Vietnam, Korean, and WWII memorials try asking this question to a veteran.

Let me know before you do. I want to watch.

War is never good but it is necessary. Because there's always someone out there willing to do you harm either for their own benefit or for there own amusement.

If you don't see the need for war why is there a need for prisons. Violent destructive behavior is not limited to individuals and wishful thinking will not make evil extinct. Mad dog killers cannot be reasoned with and unless stopped by application of superior violence will murder the innocent.

A friend of mine--a retired Marine who earned a Silver Star in Vietnam, once told me"There are no good wars. The only good thing about a war is the day it ends."
