Advice on any or more of the following areas would be much appreciated. It would also be helpful if you have some experiences.

The following are extremely difficult for me to do.

1. learn how to move on quickly rather than deliberating or obsessively trying to attain perfection
2. valuing family and the home over work and industry
3. maintain a balanced view of mistakes

1. many people use ideas like "will it really matter in 100 years"
1. never spend so long on a decision that it cost you more to make it than any advantage you might get (like spend an hour doing something that saves two cents would not make sense)
2. work/industry is escapist behavior sometimes. learn to meditate and accept yourself.
3. remember that the more mistakes you are making the more you are doing. make mistakes as fast as you can. if you never make mistakes you are probably not doing anything. those who take risks make mistakes. keep taking risks because it increases your chance of success.

1-like someone else said: "Will this matter in the next day/week/month/year/decade...?" That always works with me, and I usually try to get everything perfect. Another approach would be to give yourself a time limit to complete the task. When the time is up, stop everything no matter what...that way you'll get the major parts of the task done, but not obsess over perfection.

2-There really isn't a problem with Valuing family over work, but just don't let it get out of hand. Family is important, but think if you didn't have a job, you couldn't help your family. Make a clear division in your mind between "work" and "home." It does get easier the more you do it.

3- Everyone makes mistakes. Keep reminding yourself of that. Make it a mantra or focus point. Don't beat yourself up over mistakes...chances are it won't be a huge problem 5 years from now. Just make sure you work at not making the same mistake twice...learn the lesson, and MOVE ON. That's the biggest thing...moving on. Good Luck!

1. A lot of people are perfectionists--there's nothing wrong with trying to insure that everything is right in a project. In some positions, however, there are deadlines. In these cases, you need to be less perfect in order to reach the deadline. If you have been doing what you do for some time, the chances of large mistakes are slim.

2. Family and the home always come before any job or industry. Your spouse and children are your life--a job is just a job, period. Even if you need to leave one, if you are good at what you do, you will not have a lot of difficulty in finding another. If this is becoming a serious problem, you may need to work part-time rather than full-time, or switch to a less stressful, time-consuming job.

3. When you consider your own mistakes, make believe that these are the mistakes of others in your mind. You would not go berserk over a few errors made by a co-worker or a family member--so don't stress over your own.

If you are stressing over the mistakes of others, you need to remember that no one is perfect - no matter how hard they might try to be. Everybody makes mistakes!!

You may have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). This requires counseling and maybe medication.
