This fear is very common after accidents espically those who have been hit in the back.
The lack of control is the problem you are facing. You maybe able to control your movements but not the projectiles and cars beside, in front or behind you and this makes you feel like a target.
The bad things is it stays with you for a long time but the good thing is it will go away eventaualy.
I think with a world where people are pushed to complete more in a workday than ever before, road rage is very common and many people become victims to these types of accidents.
It is almost like drinking.... Drink to much Vodka and have a bad experience and you tend to switch to Tequila. Vodka will not be as appealing anymore.

If you were walking, or riding a bike, someone may hit you today. You may also be struck by lightning, or if swimming, you may be attacked by a shark. Granted, there are more people killed each year being struck in the head by a falling coconut, but driving is inherently dangerous. They give licenses to practically anyone, so I understand why you may realize your chances of serious injury or death driving is significant.
Having survived a number of accidents in my lifetime, I guess you have to do a risk/reward analysis for any activity you are engaged in. If you skydive for instance, what are the statistical probabilities that the parachute won't open?
Now, is it worth the risk, to you?

Did you drive directly after the accident?Driving is like riding a bicycle; you should get right back in and drive. It will take you a while to overcome it.

Yes, its common. Try to recite a prayer and take deep breaths before and while you are driving. It helped me after my car accident.
