I checked my credit and I have a 542 and an account in collections. All my debt stems from student expenses. I do however have excellent rental history, and no convictions. My roommate has great credit, no convictions, but has no rental history. Together we make 4 and a half times the rent. What are the chances of getting into an apartment owned by a large property managment firm?

Probably excellent. You are going to be asked for a deposit and the last months rent. They are at very little risk with the last months rent in their pocket. You have a good rental record--go for it.

Your chances are good at getting in. They property manager will most likely require a large security deposit, but if you make four times the monthly rent, it shouldn't be much of a problem.

chances are good. Especially since your friend has good credit. They really dont care too much as long as you can put down the security deposit your in.
some do background check, and some don't even do that, if you both signing the lease and you make 4 x's as much as the rent, you'll get in.

I think you can rent an apartment but the deposit you need may be quite large...

Depends. If you make that much money, I bet they would just ask for a fat security deposit.
