mpeg1 or mpeg 2 ?

i have bought TV tuner card which has facility to record programs on both mpeg1 and mpeg 2. i would like to know which option is better and what are the best setting while recording to watch programs on TV after recording.

MPEG-2 at about 4-6 Mbits/s should be pretty good for standard definition
Use Variable bit rate (VBR) if available, it is better than CBR.

Use MPEG-1 at about 1.5 Mbits/s if you need more storage capacity
