The refs call was correct at the end of the game...the announcers were idiots.
When the Memphis player tipped the ball, the ball then hit the court IN BOUNDS, before bouncing out of bounds over the scorer's table. The ball did not immediately land out of bounds.
The announcers thought the tipped ball landed out of bounds immediately, in which case maybe 2 or 3 tenths of a second would go by...but the ball landed in bounds, bounced into the air and over the scorers table...that took at least a second.
Had the clock started when the Memphis player deflected the inbounds pass, at least one second would have ran off the clock by the time the ball hit the ground, bounced into the air, and landed at the scorers table.
If the clock were operated correctly, it would have started when the Memphis player tipped the pass, and would not have stopped until the ball actually landed on the table.
The refs got it right.
The announcers got it wrong.

The rules state that the clock starts WHEN IT IS TOUCHED on an inbound pass, and that it STOPS WHEN IT LANDS out of bounds (or, in this case, touches something out of bounds -- a reporter at press row). The clock does not stop when the ball passes the side line (this is what happens when football fans watch basketball games). Now that you know the rules (as stated several times on tv during the game), go back and time it. You can argue they missed it by .1-.2 seconds, but not by much. TAMU lost the game when Mr. Clutch, Acie Law IV, missed a gimme lay-up in the closing seconds. And when TAMU couldn't pull down one out of four rebounds.

No, because I had Texas A&M going to the Elite Eight in my bracket and Memphis, with the help of the refs, screwed my bracket up.

You guys are all silly. Learn the rules of basketball, watch the replay again. The ball bounces ON THE COURT and then spends 1-1.5 seconds sailing through the air before landing out of bounds. The officials werent wrong, thats why they are out there making money while you are sitting at your computers.
AND YES I AM GLAD MEMPHIS WON CUZ I HAVE THEM WINNING IT ALL. haha

Yea, especially when the refs give the mutherfucken tigers the game. Those refs should never be allowed to ref, and Memphis got lucky. In a real game, not getting cheated, memphis would have lost.

Only because I had Memphis advancing in my bracket, as far as emotional ties to either school I couldn't really care either way.

that was an absolute ridiculous loss. i go to a&m so obviously i'm aggie, but even if i weren't 1.1 seconds was FAR to much to take off the clock. even one more second we could have gotten a closer shot for the win. the refs sucked and now my aggies are out.
boo

A&M got screwed.
Edit: Amazing that people think the refs screwed A&M with the clock. They refs didn't call the entire game fairly.
