You can ignore my answer since I haven't read the book or seen the recent DVD, but I hope that you might listen to me.
You have to know that all of this crap is a total, total sham. It's anti-intellectual hocus pocus, like Harry Potter for pseudo-grown-ups. These are simply snake oil salesmen and women who have duped yet another generation. This kind of peddling has been a part of People's History (that is, lower and middle class history) since the beginning of time. Please don't waste your money. There are other ways to reinstill hope into your life: Religion, science, books, art, exercise, family, friends, etc.

The BBC ran a poll a few years back and they captured the 100 most popular books. Search for "Big read top 100" should find it. I won't reprint the whole thing, but the top 20 were 1. The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien 2. Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen 3. His Dark Materials, Philip Pullman 4. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams 5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, JK Rowling 6. To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee 7. Winnie the Pooh, AA Milne 8. Nineteen Eighty-Four, George Orwell 9. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, CS Lewis 10. Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë 11. Catch-22, Joseph Heller 12. Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë 13. Birdsong, Sebastian Faulks 14. Rebecca, Daphne du Maurier 15. The Catcher in the Rye, JD Salinger 16. The Wind in the Willows, Kenneth Grahame 17. Great Expectations, Charles Dickens 18. Little Women, Louisa May Alcott 19. Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Louis de Bernieres 20. War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy Some of these may date, like 3, 5, 13 and 19, but I bet in 50 years time the list will be pretty similar. Judging by your list you might like Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Suzanna Clarke

i haven't read the book...but i have seen the DVD and it's well........a VERY different way of thinking. I'm sure it has some positive effects, because after all it gets you thinking positive and that's always a good thing. i'm not a superstitious person, but i guess it wouldn't hurt to just go along with it eh? my life goal so far is to play the Firebird at the Lincoln Center......not sure that will ever happen but hey, can't hurt to dream right?
in any case the theory is truely interesting, but i think i may need some more proof to believe it. nothing has yet to happen to me!

My friend Pip told me about her experiences leading up to her first division lottery win.
“It was weird because I had been doing affirmations saying ‘I am wealthy...” and “I’ve won lotto!!!!” I had the The Secret DVD and anyway I had been watching that and then started the " I am wealthy" affirmations…… http://www.psychic-junkie.com/psychic-wins-lottery.html
As a teacher of The Secret for many years, as well as being a profession psychic, I now recommend The Secret DVD to everyone. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/does-the-secret-really-work.html
