John Marshall was the first chief justice. His most famous case was Marbury v. Madison.

Well let's look at this:

1. The first Chief Justice was appointed by President Washington and his name was John Jay. Your clue refers to John Marshall, the FOURTH Chief Justice, so the entire premise of the first question and the accompanying clue are both wrong.

2. You are correct in that Jefferson did not create the Marine Corps, they were originally created in 1775 prior to the United States even being formed as a country. And it was JOHN ADAMS that signed the bill creating the Marine Corps, NOT Thomas Jefferson.



Whew....a lot of mopping up on these two points. But NOW you know the historically accurate truth.
