Matzah Cover

Materials:

4 square pieces of solid color cloth or felt.
Squares should be at least 9 inches by 9 inches

squeeze tubes of fabric paint or permanent markers
decorations like sequins, buttons, bits of ribbon or yarn
white glue or glue gun
needle and thread for sewing if needed

Instructions: Have your children each decorate one square of fabric.
Let it dry overnight.
Layer the four squares on top of each other, ending with the decorated one on top
Simply stitch around three sides of the square.

Notes: This is an easy craft project for the kids and gives them something on the seder table that is uniquely theirs. The result is they can participate in the seder and "bring something to the table"

Or another neat idea would be to make a scrapbook to hold pictures from the passover.

One time I illlustrated the Passover story using red string. I asked each of the children if they were the firstborn or not. If they said yes, I gave them a red string. One firstborn boy (who knew the story, of course) refused his string. One boy had complicated parentage, but he was the firstborn of his mother, so I gave him the string. After, I told the Passover story and pretended I was the Angel of Death. I came around with a fake sword, sparing the lives of the firstborn who had the red string. Of course, the firstborn boy who had refused the string got his "throat slit"!

You could adapt that idea. You could also use construction paper, scissors, and crayons to have the children create their own front doors with lamb's blood on the doorposts and lintels.

Happy Passover!

* make a seder plate
* have them decorate a plastic cup with tissue paper and glue to become Eliyahu's Cup
* make a tie-dye matza cover or a tissue paper decorated matza box
* make a tie-dye pillow to recline with, or have them color with markers or otherwise decorate a pillow so they can recline
