How soon can I test? Well, first you gotta know how the test works. Briefly: the home pregnancy test (HPT) works by detecting a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG.) When an egg is fertilized, it takes about 6 to 12 days to implant in the uterus, and then it begins to secrete hCG. It takes another day or two for enough hCG to build up and make its way into your pee. So, generally speaking, the earliest you can expect a positive HPT is 8 days past ovulation ("DPO") and the latest would be about 16 DPO. It is possible to get a positive test earlier or later, but not as common. In my experience, if you use a sensitive "early" test (anything that detects 25 mIU/mL of hCG or less) you can test around 12-14 DPO and feel reasonably secure with your results (the later you test, the more secure you can feel in its accuracy.)

If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

Well, first comes sex. Then it takes a few hours or a few days (normally) for the sperm to reach the egg, depending on whether the egg is there "waiting" or not. After that, it will take a few more days to implant. That's when the hcg hormone will start being produced. It will start doubling each day after that. Let's say that's the 6th day after sex. So: 7th day after sex - 2 hcg 8th day - 4 hcg 9th day - 8 hcg 10th day - 16hcg 11th day - 32 hcg 12th day afer sex - 64hcg etc. The most sensitive pregnancy tests are supposed to measure 20 hcg. Others measure about 50 hcg. The truth is that the earlier you test, the more likely you'll get a false negative, so it's just best to wait AT LEAST until 3 weeks after sex or 1 week after a missed period, even though it is TECHNICALLY possible to get a positive reading earlier than that. Also, it is very possible to ovulate at different times, even if you have a "regular" 28 day cycle. Since you are having sex anyway, I think you're covered. Good luck!

Up to 5 days before your missed period. It is like 10 days after. That is when I found out. You can go to the doctor for a blood test, and you can find out at a week. It really just depends on your hormone levels. Most home pregnancy test require a 20 HCG level to realize you are prego. If you see a slight line you may just be pregnant. Best thing to do is FIRST pee in the morning use it, that is when you have the most HCG, Good Luck!!!

it takes 14 days after conception for the baby to implant itself into the uterine wall - when this happens your body will release the hcg hormone which is tested in pregnancy tests!

if you test too early you will get a negative so try to hold on for a while!

All the best,

Sophia

It takes at least 14 days for your body to start producing the HCG hormone that the test detects.
Good Luck!

Well I was only 4 weeks when I found out I was pregnant. Anything before that is probably too early.
