Looking for a good authentic Chinese food restaurant in San Francisco w/nice atmosphere. My wife is Chinese.

NOT interested in House of Nanking. Been there before. Coworker loves it but we thought it was just OK.

Not interested in PF Chang's (or any other American-Chinese place).

thanks

Don't go to the Chinatown or even donwtown, those food are prepare for "non Chinese people", or maybe for lunch is ok because real Chinese can tell the different. I tell you one secret, when you see a bunch of "non Chinese looking" customers inside the Chinese food restaurat, I can tell it has no authentic Chinese food there, but when you see a bunch of chinese looking people inside, and you can get in and try their real Chinese food.

Go to the sunset district if you dn't think it is too far for you(and it depend where is your hotel), there are many real Chinese food restaurants downthere, and also try seafood restaurants, they are good.

Have fun!!!

When I was living in the city, I used to go to Tsing Tao on Clement and 32nd ave. I haven't found any better Chinese food anywhere. I always get the chili fried prawns and an order of hot braised chicken. Everything is good there. Their web page is www.tsingtaosf.com.

Tommy Toy's in S.F. downtown. I love it there! Pricey, but you're paying for the romantic atmosphere and good service. Order their delicious 7-course chef's sampler/special (about $50 pp). Don't order any of the other dishes though, I heard they were only so-so. Another one to try would be Yank Sing at the Rincon Center downtown. Again, pricey but their lunch dim sum is terrific! Haven't tried their dinner menu though.

Chinatown in San Francisco is pretty big. You should walk and check out the restaurants and see what your wife will fancy.
