Well, the Greeks usually built their ancient castles and temples on hills, and they them acropolis that meant "edge of town" (acro=edge, polis=town). They had many such castles, like the acropolis of Athens, or the acropolis of Corintos.

The Greeks built their temples all over. In Athens they used the Acropolis for one specific temple.
