I took a child development class in high school, and the teacher told us a woman can get pregnant again (with another child) while already pregnant with one. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

superfecundation.

It is very possible. Sperm stays alive for a few days. It is possible for two seperate eggs to fertilize days apart and for the fathers to be two different people

it very well IS possible, however this usually occurs very early in the pregnancy. It is possible to get pregnant later on in pregnancy, but it isnt classic, and the fetus would likely die at that point because of being birthed too early.

EDIT: id also like to add, there are some cases of which the first has occured, and they are counted as twins. i have sex ed. (i just watched that 'The Miracle of Birth' video again today.) and someone asked that a few days ago, the teacher did some research and came back with a yes, it's possible.)

This is not true. When a woman becomes pregnant her body and the baby's placenta releases hormones to inhibit further ovulation. Even before conception the corpus luteum (the empty egg follicle) is releasing hormones to prevent further ovulation until the menstrual cycle is complete.

Unless the embryo is implanted into her body, which I cannot see why anyone would want to do something so stupid and risk the one that they are already carrying, there is no way that you can become pregnant if you already are. Your body prevents this from happening.

the body doesnt release any more eggs once you are pregnant. So i would say no..however stranger things have happened. And the cervix has to be closed once you are pregnant to support the pregnancy, so no more sperm would get up there anyway.

if you are pregnant with one child you can't just have two at different times. if it was possible when the water would break for the first baby, the other baby would have to come out too. it makes no sense. its false. it has happened but it is very very rare. the woman would have to have two uteruses.

the ovaries don't release an egg while your pregnant but as jelly bean'z said stranger things have happened...you normally don't get pregnant while pregnant but sometimes with twins, one can be several days older than the other.with my twins my younger one was 2 days younger than her older brother...so if it is still early in their development and the pregnnacy, i think it is possible

Well considering that there are women that ovulate twice in a month, it could be possible. But I would assume that the woman would have to ovulate pretty soon after conception of the first baby. This is just a guess though. Not a professional in this field by any means.
