If you are using a windows pc you need service pack 2 or higher this can be a pain in the rear to download so you might have to buy it or it mightve been the usb port is not version 2.0 this is normal. as far as the iPod saying do not disconnect its supposed to say tha...t why dont you put down exactly what the computer said?

Ipods are the hardest consumer electronics to use if you are technically inefficient. I had an Ipod that I was putting songs on for a friend and it said the exact same thing yours said and i could not figure it out. The best thing to try and do is go to the Ipod online site and see if there are any other online instructions.

I took back my iPood. It was too hard to use and was too proprietary. iPoods only allow youto down load music you own or music you steal.

I got a Zune instead. It's much easier and much better. Zunes can be personalized by changing the background image with any picture you have.(iPoods dont do that) Zunes share music and you can also get unlimited downloads for only $15 per month (something iTunes doesn't do). I can listen to radio, it has a bigger screen to watch videos. Love the Zune! iPood stinks....
