I would say more take the husbands last name than keep their own. The ones that keep their maiden name may do it for professional purposes

I don't think it's right for a woman not take her husband's last name. Marriage is about becoming "one" and taking partnership in everything. It would have crushed my husband if I told him I didn't want his last name. One of my greatest momments was being annouced as his wife right after we got married.

America is to much into femism now and I believe that some women forget how lucky they can be to be a wife. I absolutely LOVE staying at home with my children and apperciate the fact my husband works. However, now more women look into careers and being a fememist.

Its called freedom of choice! Do they have that in the middle east? How can woman have too much rights it is there life they should be able to choose how they wanna live it. You can't buy an American woman from her father for 6 goats and 2 pigs doesnt work that way here : ) as in some countries.

So you know MOST women in America huh? Boy you must not have a job or anything else in order to actually meet MOST women in America. In America we are afforded the freedom to choose whether we WANT to take our husband's last name or not. We are not FORCED to take any name. Same is true for the man...he is free if he so chooses to take his wife's last name (and yes it has been done) That's the advantage of being an American...the freedom to make our own choices rather than having them dicated to us.

it was my second husbands idea to take my maiden name when we married because his family refused to accept me and blamed me for things their son did which had nothing to do with me. i did not agree with some of the choices he made either but they were his choices.i did not know it could be done and since his family didnt accept me i was happy to keep my familys name and not have the same last name as his ex wife or the 2 kids she stuck himpaying support on that are not his!when i was married to my first husband i was happy to take his name and kept it proudly for 24 years of marriage all the way till he walked out on me for a cheap tramp that cant even read!god bless the usa!
