Being transgendered myself, I'd probably wish to talk to him and find out what his feeligns were; does he wish to be a boy, or does he think himself a girl. People who are forced into gender roles agains their will suffer. I personally think that the suffering caused by being forced into a role is worse than the suffering faced later when trying to assert your true nature.
Some people may pick on such a child, but the unfortunate truth is that NO MATTER WHAT, there is no way to give that child a life free from pain in the culture in which we live. If this is a boy that enjoys women's clothing, then he will be picked on for being a transvestite and will probably suffer in seclusion. If the child is transsexual, the best bet is to allow HER to transition EARLY to avoid the problems associated with masculinization. If the child is merely effeminate, and enjoys ballet, then great for him; there are too few good male dancers in the ballet.
A child needs to be comfortable with who they are; forcing them to be otherwise leads to depression and suicide. I'd rather have a child who was picked on by a few but confident of who they are, than a child who found solace only in seclusion and lived with constant depression.

When I have kids (boys and girls), I want them to hit up gymnastics and some kind of sports or something else....if I had a son who was into ballet, I wouldn't know what to think - I'd hope he got in it to meet women or something and he didn't turn into a weird emo dude

no, no I would not. not to kill his self esteem or anything but every kid in the school will kick his ***, not for the possibility of being gay but being weak. kids these days are weak enough without wearing tutus.
