Well when you are starting a newborn on cereal its generally recommended to give it to them just once. Preferable before bed to keep them satisfied through the night. Then once they have been on it for a while it's ok to increase the amount, say maybe in morning and in night before bed.

First fruits and veggies should be started at about 5 or 6 months old. And when you do start they should have half a jar at a time especially at first. The main reason for it is that some babies are prone to constipation or may have allergies develop gas from certain foods, so it's best to start one specific fruit and one specific meat. For example, try applesauce first along with chicken noodle dinner. Stick to it for three days and then if your baby seems to be digesting and eating it without any problems then you can move on to other things. The babies don't know the difference and don't get tired of certain things because the foods are totally new to them and they really don't have a concept of taste rather they are just wanting to be satisfied. I don't recommend offering a plain veggie and preferred to get the meat mixed kind because it always made my daughter REALLY gassy and constipated. Be careful in the beginning though because it may seem like such a small jar to you but your baby's tummy is very small and it won't take much to satisfy him at first. By the time your baby is about 9 months old he can eat up to two full jars at one meal. But start slow and work your way up as per your child's needs.
