put the notecard in on one side then print, then put it in on the otherside and print

Sometimes a printer will come with an installation CD (most times it won't) that tells you about your printer. I'd refer you to your owner's manual. The first answer is basically right, but you'd have to set your preferences on the printer to make sure it doesn't print out over the side of your index card.

after you print on 1 side turn it over and print on the other

Use a pen or pencil, instead of the printer.
