Have you thought about pay per click programs? The two biggest, I think, are Yahoo! and Google

A few free resources – check out the sources box for links:

1) Create a blog pertaining to your field

2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one!

3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise.

4) Advertise on Craiglist

Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other's sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission.

I listed a few handy sites & articles relating to marketing, promotion & advertising. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

The key to any business is in the follow up, and fliers make it difficult to do so. Depending on what type of business you are in, the marketing methods vary. It depends on whether you are offering a service or a product as to the best approach. If I had more information, I could perhaps steer you in a direction that might be helpful.

Ads in your local paper. Small 2-3 lines are cheap.
Have a competition and offer your service as a prize. This works well.

I got some decals made for my car and drive it everywhere.

Small slots on the radio. Can be expensive but stick to later times until you afford to move your time slot.
T.V is the same.

Fliers in letter boxes.
Signs on poles and placed at intersections and round abouts. Place them there before peak hour and remove them after to save you replacing them.

I use fliers on bus stop shelters as well.

On line you could do e-mail marketing, write articles and give them away or if they are good enough sell them.

Hope that helps you some.

All the best to you from New Zealand

One way is to put your business in the Yellow Pages of the telephone. Make sure it isn't too small otherwise nobody will be able to see or read it. Make sure you make to make it stick out with something special to attract new customers.

Have you thought about a classified ad on ebay? They're only $10/month and can get you lots of interest if done right.

Have you setup a website for your business? That would be my first step. If you are going to build a site for business purposes, make sure to get your own domain name. Its cheaper than you think. Here is a guide to getting started: http://www.richkahmer.com/build-a-website.html

Once you have a site setup you need to grow visitors to it. Build inbound links to your site.
Most of the directories online charge a one time fee to review your site and add it to their index. Here are three of my favorites:

http://www.kahmer.com
http://www.joeant.com
The more inbound links to your site, the better you will rank
with Yahoo / Google / MSN.
Also work on your meta tags. Here is an
article on how they work: http://www.richkahmer.com/meta-tags.html
