How Do I Tell My Teacher to Not give me too much homework? So Far this week, I have been doing 23 to 29 hours of homework in just 5 days. I have been sleeping late (11pm or 12am) just on finishing my homework with maybe a 30 mintute brake for sleeping an eating. Then the next day I wake up at 6:20 for school. I dont want my teachers to get mad or anything but Its just getting a little too stressful. Im getting tension hedaches and my backpack gets a little too heavy to carry (20 lbs the most) and I usually get more homework than the school next to us that holds the 7th and 8th graders (Im in 6th Grade). So far since ive ate Salad last week because its one of the fastest foods I know how to make (and I enjoy it). I cant handle it anymore! I need a brake (Saturdays and Sundays arent enough. I still do at least 2 hours of homework each weekend. The last thing is that I cant believe the 8th graders on our bus get less homework than I do) HELP!!! And I dont have free period or studyhall.

Where are your parents in all of this? They should be feeding you, not letting you fend for yourself with salad!

I think the best way to resolve this would be to have your parents talk to the teachers about it. If you go directly to them, they might just think you are complaining. Sometimes teachers think that the amount of work they assign is reasonable, not realizing that combined with every other class it can be overwhelming.

This is something you, your parent(s), and the teacher need to talk about. However, consider this: If the other students in your class are getting the same homework and it is getting completed in a shorter amount of time. Than that suggest that it is not the homework; it is your approach. In some cases a teacher may give too much homework to a class and the majority of the class has issues. It does not sound like that is the case. The one thing to realize about homework is that when properly given it is simply practice for what has been learned in class. Forgive me, but some students see homework as a time to learn the material. Homework is not the time to learn the material. Any questions should always be asked in class. Homework can be a nightmare if full attention and questions are not asked during class. Hope this helps.

In Middle School, the homework can really add up. You don't say what kind of homework you're getting... is it big projects or is it worksheets and such? Is it that you're taking a long time trying to get your homework done (is it hard for you, are you being focussed when your working?) If you want to present your teacher with an argument for less homework, then you could tell them about a study which showed that more homework doesn't necessarilly equal better grades. For each grade of homework, there shouldn't be more than 10 minutes per grade (for you, no more than 60 minutes.)
Here's what one study by Harris Cooper of Duke University found: "Too much homework brings diminishing returns. Cooper's analysis of dozens of studies found that kids who do some homework in middle and high school score somewhat better on standardized tests, but doing more than 60 to 90 min. a night in middle school and more than 2 hr. in high school is associated with, gulp, lower scores."
Time magazine did an article on this subject, which you can find in your school's library and share it with your teacher. Or, click on the link below.
Also, if you're in the 6th grade, you should have a study center. It's required for all 6th graders here in the middle schools in our area.

Oh you poor thing! I feel so bad..... maybe you could tell your teacher that you have too many other activities to do. You see, I'm a senior and I don't have anywhere near that much homework. Just say that you are only in the sixth grade and that you shouldn't have that much homework at that young of an age. It's not fair and you can't be a kid.

No teacher should be giving you that much HW, it sounds like you may be having problems keeping up. Maybe you should ask for a tutor, & talk to your parents about asking your teacher to give you alternitive assignments, or put you in a class that best suits your skill levels and pase

This is something you shouldn't have to do. Your parents should be stepping up and telling your teacher that you're trying your hardest and still having a hard time getting it all done. Have them schedule a conference with your teachers.

whoa, lol, i was about to say that's nothin if u didn't mention that ur in 6th grade. anyways, first things first. load up on caffeine so u r able to stay awake to do ur homework. second, if u get an allowance use it to ur advantage and pay someone to do ur homework (except studying for tests and quizzes of course). if that doesn't work, u should start reasonably guessing on ur written homework if ur teacher doesn't grade u for accuracy (that's wut i did in 6th grade, and i got good grades). third, u should schedule the homework u can finish during lunch. finally, Matthew 7:8, "For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." Just ask ur teacher to give u less homework. hopefully that works, if not, ur teacher is a j*****s. i hope this helps. i'll pray for ya.
