Do the means ever justify the ends?

just in general...do you think that it's okay for somebody to do something horrible in order to achieve a "good" end result?

think of Hitler, Stalin, Xerxes...etc's and their "good intentions"

Yes, if you break & enter someones house to save a kidnapping victim,the means would justify the ends.

I don't think these people had good intentions. They were power hungry megalomaniacs. Doing something horrible to get a good result should never be done. Occasionally the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or one.
