well, I MAKE my kids care by systematically taking away their things one by one for every show of disrespect and attutide. When they can show human attritubes, such as kindness and compassion.. then they can earn their things back... if I haven't thrown them out of given them to the needy. When it gets personal enough, they will start to care. My kid knows that when she acts older, she gets treated older. But if she shows disrespect.. even your pillow and bed are mine. (but it has never gotten that far). I don't yell. I don't show any anger. It's just matter of fact... 'oh, you sassed me off... your t.v. is now getting carried to my room.' matter of fact.. no emotion punishment. Cause and effect. She will care (and I bet she does, she doesn't want to show it).

I don't know if you ever read the bible, but the word of God says that if you spare the rod you spoil the child. You are the parent, you are supposed to discipline her.
I know that everyone has different takes when it comes to this, but think of how she will be in the future unless you show her the right way to go - shape her in the way she should grow and when she's older she'll not depart from it. She might even end up in Juvie and that would mess everything else for her in future.
My suggestion, start now, she needs to listen and follow orders and treat other people with respect.

it may be too late. If you do not have a loving relationship with this 12 year old, there is no basis for her to respect what you say! Love is the key to influencing someone in your family; once this goes..its nearly impossible. You need to learn what love is and then apply it to your daughter..then she will listen to what you have to say! Then, she will "care" about your opinion.

Sometimes when you are overly critical and overly involved they just give up. (Never gonna please her, so why bother attitude)
Shes obviously very smart, and (unless she is under the influence of someone or something), she will make the right decision.
If not she will have to learn from her own mistakes.
Good luck
