If you have had an MRI and you have consulted with your primary doctor and a specialist (neuro-surgeon), plus you have done all the anti-inflammatories, pain killers, physical therapy, and you are still a victim to the chronic pain, hell yes, get the surgery. I went through it two years ago.....and it changed my life - had a severe herniated disk in the L4-L5 region. Just make sure you have a good doctor, the surgery risk is minimal compared to years of living with constant pain and the need for pain management drugs that can later create a dependency (i.e. vicodin, oxycotin, percocet, etc - all bad news if necessary for long term management.)

It depends what your problem is. Certainly do not rely on people you have never met ... get a second and third opinion from doctors ... be wise ... do your homework. Check with the medical board to make sure your doctor has no complaints filed against them. There are also other forms of relief. Go to the internet and do your research ... There may be relief without surgery. Good luck!

The decision is ultimately up to you. I know 3 people who have had back surgeries. Every single one of them have regreted it. My mom now is on her 5th back surgery and it just gets worst and worst. Lots of pain pills, and what they call saddle block shots.
I also have a really bad back but I decided that even though it hurts most days, At least I can still get up and walk around. My mom can not. She can not stand for too long, cant sit for too long etc. The surgery really messes people up.
