Before u all start, this is a serious question and not in the slightest racist.... If someone called a white person 'Engi' or 'americ' (abbreviated' we wouldn't be insulted...more likely we would laugh....

You could of just said Brit for Briton.
But yes I often wonder the same.
I think its deemed unsuitable because alot of white assume every asian apart from a chinky is a paki.

Same as if someone is from Thailand there is a good chance that they will be called Chink.

Becuase it's used and intended as a derogatory term.
If someone calls you a w**ker, you take offence to it, whether you do masturbate or not, because the context in which it's used is intended to be an insult.

They call them selves that as a term of brother hood. The fact is that we as westerners do not use it in the same way. We use it more as a slang. This offends them. Same way when you listen to rap and the N word is used, but any non black using it is offensive. It is just another double standard. Dont worry about it.

well first off anyone should be offended when racial slurs are used. and secondly the majority of the population or economically dominant (whites have suffered very little when in comparison to minorities ) will tend to take slurs as less offensive. really common sense..

It is a slang term created by people, who are not the people this slang refers to. So it could be quite racist. I think its like calling the Chinese, Chinamen-(Sorry) or anything like that.

totally a agree us brits use the word chinkee and we mean nothing buy it.And am sure the chinks are ok with it.
