I thought the story was very cute but I didn't like watching all the cruelty and violence towards the animals. =(
the pigs attacking old yeller, the wolf and yeller fighting, the deer being hunted by the boy, and such.

It was a great movie for its time. I didn't like all the violence either, but in a way it was all needed in the story line.

Looks like you have some responders who can't seperate fact from fantasy. Anyway, OLD YELLER is an American classic, both the book and the movie. Should be seen by everyone who has the guts to say they're American.

I liked it a lot. The 'pig' scene was made with a dummy and the pigs snout was wired to the dummy's leg (remember how short this scene was?) The Dog -Wolf fight was very brief and they used a German Shepard dog for a 'wolf' the dogs were separated shortly after the fight began. another very short scene remember?And last but not least how do you think people in those days and times got protein? If they hadn't hunted animals you and I would not be here. Get in touch with reality,this is not a fairy tale world!

My 4th grade teacher read the book to us and I was blown away by it. Then I saw the movie later and several times since. I ALWAYS cry!!!
