You're putting too much thought into it! Mood has nothing to do with melody. Just write what comes out of you naturally and don't try to catagorize and assembly-line your writing process. When you think of a new song in your head, the music will come first and then the lyrics will just be there simutainiously. Or you may get all the music out first and then just let that music dictate what your lyrics will be. good luck and keep writing. It doesn't have to be great writing but do it as often as possible and eventually you will aquire your own STYLE and THEN your writing will become its best! :-)

I write melody and lyrics almost simultaneously. While I'm writing the lyrics, I'm already humming them to myself. It makes the task of pairing lyrics with a melody seem much less daunting. This way you can avoid any awkwardness in your lyrics and how they may be sung.

Keep in mind, my first draft isn't perfect. The goal is to plow through and make the changes later. This way you keep your thoughts continuous and the song will make sense as a whole. I can always go back and make changes.

If you need specific ideas, just email me and I would be happy to help.
