He is a 30 yr. old alcoholic who checked himself in two days ago. I am hearing through his mom who hears through the nurses there that he is having a rough time. Anyone here been through it who can shed some light for me?I feel so bad and wish I could do something. Any ideas? No funny answers, please.

I have not been through it myself but I have known people who have and have read up on it. The first few days are rough because the person is de-toxing that means the substance that they are addicted to is leaving their body. The side effects of this process can be physically very hard. In a few more days he will begin to feel some what better but will still crave the booze. If you check out ALA- NON's site you can get a lot more info. AA has a on line site also and they have been through it ! Your nephew and his mom both need your support now and in the future ! The road to recovery will be long and hard but it can be done family support is one of the key ingredients to successful treatment and recovery. Be there for both of them. He is the only one who can make this work. In my prayers.
