I recently purchased a Western Digital 400GB hard drive and I have a question. I was able to format it and i currently have data stored on it. However, it's the file type of the disk, “Dynamic Disk,” that concerns me. Is there any way to change it to NTFS file format? I've tried formatting it through the disk manager and Partition Magic doesn’t right click on this drive. Any suggestions. Thanks

Directly from XP help:

To change a dynamic disk back to a basic disk
Using the Windows interface

Back up or move all volumes on the disk you want to convert from dynamic to basic.
For more information about backing up volumes, click Related Topics.

Open Computer Management (Local).
In the console tree, click Disk Management.

Computer Management (Local)
Storage
Disk Management

Right-click the dynamic disk you want to convert to a basic disk, and then click Delete Volume for each volume on the disk.
When all volumes on the disk have been deleted, right-click the disk, and then click Convert To Basic Disk.

if you are in disk manager and the drive says its dynamic disk it is already ntfs. dynamic disk allows you to play around with partitions in ways that basic disk will not, you may have to remove all of the subpartions and then reformat the drive as a whole.

Is this an external or internal hard drive? I'm assuming that it's an external since I didn't see any of the internal ones at my computer web site that I reccomend a lot of people to go to (http://www.tigerdirect.com). Without knowing that one detail, it's hard to give a helpful answer.
