I just bought a Mobile Pre USB to connect to my computer and I need some software to record the instruments. I remember a buddy telling me that he downloaded his recording stuff off the internet for free and I can't get in touch with him now and I don't want to spend a bunch of money for something I 'll just play around with. Thanks!

He probably used Audacity from soundforge.
You can download it for free from here:
http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/downloads.php
You should be able to multi-track with it, I've not tried it yet, but I'm sure you can...
