Because if you want any kind of financial security in this country and if you don't want to work for McDonald's for the rest of your life you should go to college. Think of the future...when you have kids, who's gonna take care of them? Kids cost a LOT of money. But even if you don't want kids, it's in the statistics...college graduates earn 3x (on average) MORE than ppl who never graduated from college. It's not about learning stuff, believe me, it's about getting that paper. Because the employers don't care about the paper itself, they just want to know that you were able to get it. It's the society...unless you have a great talent, you are not going to get anywhere without the college degree.

The traditional supporting argument for further education after high school is, of course, the higher average income of students who continued their education after recieving a high school diploma. You need to understand that it's a very two-sided argument; there is no one definite answer, but most people with an opinion on the matter will push their belief as if it IS a definite answer.

B/c if they take a year off.. there is a bigger chance they will never go back to college... They start wanting to live on their own.. and end up with a rent payment.. they want a new car... and end up with a car payment... and that in turn makes them have to work more... and then even thinking about going back to school makes your head hurt.. so you'll just decide to do it later... Then you end up 30 years old and the best da*n waitress at The Lonely Saloon.

so they can get better educated for BIGGER future jobs. high school education is not enough to equip you with the knowledge you need in the business world. i am neither saying that college is but college is a the fundamental foundation for mind setting & mind training. holding a college degree could bring you farther than a high school diploma could.

It helps you figure out who you are. It's about so much more than the degree, the time, the friends--and about all that stuff, too.

Going to school gives you the freedom to decide what classes you want to take, what friends you want to make, where you want to go in life. College gives you options. And the ability to make more money in your life time--which also gives you options beyond "which bill to pay" first...or which bills don't get paid. And instead, options like "where to go on vacation"...

Because employers are looking for higher skilled workers. Even if you are highly skilled, but you don't have a degree, they wouldn't know exactly how good you are. A degree from college is a signal effect. It lets employers know that you
1. are educated (if from a good college)
2. you can tolerate "seemingly trivial" rules (who said that taking core courses in college made any sense if it didn't relate to your major) and
3. you can handle the pressures of deadlines (papers, homework, tests)

The employer sees these things are knows you are more qualified for the job.
