*sigh* I know I'm probably doing your homework for you, but here goes:

All of them have common denominators, so just add the numerators:

1. 8x/16 or x/2 (reduced fraction)

2. -5x/25 or -x/5 (reduced)

3. 16/4x (4/x reduced)

4. -30/16x (or -15/8x reduced)

5. Moore is 2 1/4 miles away and Park is 6 1/4 miles away

Thus, once you get to Moore, you still have to drive 4 miles (6 1/4 - 2 1/4) to get to Park. That is the distance between them.

1. 7x/16 + x/16= (7x+x)/16 =8x/16= x/2 (common denominator)

2. x/25 - 6x/25 =(x-6x)/25= -5x/25= -x/25 (sign of the greater number)

3. 5/4x + 11/4x= 16/4x = 4/x

4. -7/16x - 23/16x = -30/16x = -15/8x

some other stuff..

Moore Ave 2 1/4 miles

lake ave 4 3/4 miles

park ave. 6 1/4 miles

find the distance between moore avenue and park avenue...

Assuming they are all in the same direction along a straight path
the distance between moore ave and park ave is just 6 1/4 - 2 1/4 = 4 miles
if you are confused 6 1/4 is 6.25 and 2 1/4 is 2.25 so 6.25-2.25 = 4
6 1/4 can also be represented as 25/4 and 2 1/4 as 9/4 so answer is (25-9)/4=16/4 = 4

1. 7x/16 + x/16
= 8x/16 = x/2

2. x/25 - 6x/25
= -5x/25 = -x/5

3. 5/4x + 11/4x
= 16/4x = 4/x

4. -7/16x - 23/16x
= -30/16x = -15/8x

Moore Ave 2 1/4 miles
lake ave 4 3/4 miles
park ave. 6 1/4 miles

I think you really need a map, but assuming the distance to all avenues was measured along the same line, the distance between moore avenue and park avenue along this line would would be

is 6 ¼ - 2 ¼ = 4 miles

1. 7x/16 + x/16 = (7x + 1x)/16 = 8x/16 = x/2

2. x/25 - 6x/25 = (1x - 6x)/25 = -5x/25 = -x/5

3. 5/4x + 11/4x = (5+11)/4x = 16/4x = 4/x

4. -7/16x - 23/16x = (-7 -23)/16x = -30/16x = -15/8x

some other stuff..

For the fractions, your teacher should have explained it to you. Let me try to explain.

If you are adding fractions with a common denominator (the bottom number) then you simply take the top numbers, add or subtract them, and put it over the denominator. So to answer your problems.

1. 7x + x = 8x
Put 8x over 16 so you get 8x/16 which if you divide both top and bottom by 2, you get x/2. Your answer is x/2.

2. x/25 - 6x/25 = -5x/25 which if you divide by 5 you get -x/5.

3. 5/4x + 11/4x = 16/4x which again if you divide by 4 you get 4/x.

4. -7/16x - 23/16x gives you -30/16x.

Im not sure what you are asking for the second question. Please rephrase.
Good luck!

this is adding and subtracting rational expressions. all of the problems have common denominators (same bottom numbers) therefore making this easy. you look at the top two numbers and add or subtract them, and then simplify as you would a regular fraction.

1. 8x/16= x/2
2. -5x/25= x/-5
3. 16/4x= 4/x
4. -30/16x= -15/8x

13 1/4 miles.
