I coach softball, and I have my girls start throwing as soon as they can, and to start exercising and doing cardio. It makes a big difference to do a little bit of work now before the season starts, and they won't be dragging after the first real practice.
For pitchers, a quick drill to strengthen your wrist is to "snap" a ball into their mit for like 15 minutes a day. This is something that can even be done sitting down.
If batting cages are open, spend as much time there also, just to get your swing back.
Have a great season.

well im 14 and have been playing 11 years.... and u cnt stop softball and just decide to start up again and exspect to be one of the best or really good... u gotta go out side everyday and practice swinging ur bat.. u can get a tee and take swings without a ball on the t and stuff and then put 2 wiffle balls on the t and try to knock off the bottom one and make the one on top of the bottom fall on the t.. then do grounder drills and just have someone throw groundsers side to side and u gotta get them.. then practice pop flys and sliding.... its really just a matter of speed quick thinking and good hand and eye cordnation u gotta be able to get someware fast and know what to do with the ball when it coms to u... do u just play like rec.. i do school team traveling and rec.... i had to run 2 miles today and i have a dislocated sholder and knee but u should also practice running.. just run a mile bring water incase u get tyerd.. dont take to many breaks and when u get home dont eat for about 30 min and dont sit down and eat for about an hour.. thts how u can burn fat and u really just gotta be born good in my opninon but good luck!!!

Running is one of the best ways to get in shape. I go through the same thing every year, and I always run to get in shape for softball.

I always start by "dry" swinging a bat in my house or outside. It gets my torso back into the motions. It's also great to do during the season. 20 times a night. You'll really, really notice a difference.

Practice throwing a tennis ball off a wall and catching it every day when time allows. When you do start softball it will seem like catching beach balls after practicing with a tennis ball.
