It bothered me, and only reminded me of the dwindling of my own dogs life. I am passionate about animal rights, but the fact that a commerical containing Sarah McGloughlins "Arms of the Angel" and a screen flashed with images of crying Cats and Dogs missing eyes, mangled, in states of depression as they are caged really makes me uncomfortable and I feel that by forcing shocking images on television without any kind of warning (not to mention they ask for donations) is very unethical and sneaky.

Would you approve of commercials showing human beings missing eyes and in different stages of injury inorder to raise money for victim's rights?

This is an excellent question. I am finding myself really liking the way your mind works. Now that having been said. It does seem just wrong to exploit those poor animals. I share my home with a spoiled rotten dachshund that I found on-line from Florida dachshund rescue. I was his fifth owner and he was only a year old. I tell everyone I know about rescuing animals. I do what I can but sometimes feel itwill never be enough. When I go to a humane society web cite I know that I will see abuse victims but it does see sneaky and unethical to just hit you with it on tv when your children could see it. I wonder if you sent an e-mail to them they would realize that we are seeing them as unethicalwhen they run such commercials? -- good question - i'm starring -k-

This is a very hot topic. Animals are still not considered anything but a commodity, as I am sure you well know.

This shock advertisement is getting worse as the days go by. I wish I could say this sort of thing shocks me, but it doesn't. Have seen way to many things people are capable of doing to animals. This is sad for many people these days are not shocked anymore, like me.

Look how we treat our fellow man.... Get ready for this is going to be nothing to compared what advertising is going to be like in another ten years, if we as a society lasts this long.

It is wrong for advertisers to do this, but it is happening in every facet of life, not only the ASPCA is doing this advertising. Look at Burger King and there advertisements. There is advertisement in Europe where the car is eating and maiming animals and this is on there TV, go to myspace or utube you can see these commertials as well. It is only going to get worse.....

Unethical and sneaky what we consider this to be is no more. As a society we have no ethics anymore, morals are hard to find. Something needs to be done but at this moment I personally (as it sounds like you are) am clueless as to what to do. We could rant and rave? We could stop supporting the ASPCA, what good would this do? There numbers show that this kind of advertising works, or they would not be doing it.

Anyhoo as I said this is a very controversial issue, a hot topic. Is it more human to let these critters keep living and hopefully get better or shoot them in the head? Killing them only after documenting what a human has done to them then go after that human? Our jails now are full of people who do things such as stealing. Abusing animals is below this even. So what do we do??

I'm a little disappointed that the ASPCA would do this. It's something I associate with PETA. I don't like that whole playing on people's emotions thing. However, they've been using images of starving children my entire life to get people to donate for that. I find it a little degrading myself.

i approve of the message, but i think they are going a little overboard with the pictures from what you described. some people are very queasy or maybe very susceptible to emotion on things like that. they should find a better way of telling people about animal abuse/rights.
