Hi,

I was wondering if someone could assist me with a problem I am having with my Acer Travelmate 2420.

At the moment, when I use the laptop for about 30 mins, I get incredibly sore eyes and a migraine headache. This does not happen when I use my desktop PC.

After investigating the issue, I found that the refresh rate on the laptop display is set at 60Hz, yet the rate on the LCD display of my desktop PC is set to 85Hz.

To resolve issue, I have been attempting to change the default resolution from 60Hz to a higher refresh rate, without success.

Does anyone know whether there are updated drivers or alternative drivers available that will allow me to change the refresh rate to the higher level ?

Regards

GW

Laptop LCD Displays only do 60Hz refresh rate. I would try turning the brightness down to remedy the issue.

you will fry your display interface if you do. the screen is the front end of an lcd system, whereby the interface is driven by a circuit. it will run at 60hz by default and only default. if you increase it beyond it's reccomended spec, u may damage ur laptop and end up paying hundreds for a repair job. lcd screens and lcd interfaces are developed individually for different types of laptop so usually, what you see is what you get. if 60hz is ur max, i'm afraid you're stuck with it.
you may find it easier to adjust the position of the screen, try tilting it to a more suitable angle. adjust brightness and contrast so it is comfortable and make sure that you use you're laptop in a well lit environment where there aren't too many glare sources or shining lights from windows hitting ur screen. hope this helps

you shouldn't need above 60hz refresh rate with a LCD display they don't flicker like a CRT it's the flicker that gives you eye strain and headaches, 60hz should be ok for a LCD but with a CRT you need at least a 75hz refresh rate
As for the drivers check in the device manager to see it they've been in-stalled

go to acers home page (thats the best place to start looking for your driver updates)

scan your system for available driver updates

your laptop is 13-15 inch im betting and may be only 60 hz refresh rate allowed
