When I get to the part where I got to choose a partition, is it true that I have to delete all the partitions the computer has because if I install Windows XP on the same (old) partition something bad might happen? Or better to say, if the partition had viruses, the viruses will remain on the partition unless I delete it and use a new one.

SO SHOULD I DELETE ALL PARTITIONS AND CREATE A NEW ONE? I know all the information and programs will erase if I do this.

Yes, delete existing partitions and create a new one. Otherwise the problems you had before may leak over into the new installation.
Deleting the partition will, as you said, erase everything including any viruses and such that may have been there before.

You don't HAVE to delete all partitions, Each partition is essentially its own hard drive, and can function independently. If you install XP on the same partition as the last install, you will probably get the option to dual=boot (running two operating systems on the same hard drive and/or computer). You probably want to format the old operating system partition, and keep existing ones, UNLESS there are big problems with the partitions (viruses, etc.). Partitions are personal preference, If you want to create a new one, go ahead, but you do not have to. Nothing bad should happen if you keep old partitions.

delete all partitions and create a new one
let it do its thing then once your computer turns on
go straight to Windows Update
and update all the way to SP2 and IE7
then you need virus/spyware obviously
AVG free
Spybot search and destroy
CCleaner
