How does it make sound? The strings are plucked and the vibrations cause different notes.

What instrumental family does it belong to? The string section.

What is the difference between electric and acoustic basses? On electric basses, the vibrations are picked up by things called pick-ups and the vibrations are transmitted to the amplifyer, making a sound. On acoustic basses, the vibrations bounce around in the part with the hole in it(dont know what its called) and it amplifies the vibrations, making a sound.

The bass is a string instrument, which makes sounds when the strings are plucked. The harder the strings are plucked the louder the sound. Acoustic basses can be very large & are played "standing up". An electric bass is plugged into an amplifier which amplifies the sound (vibrations from the plucked strings). Some awesome bass players are "Flea" from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dee Dee Ramone of the Ramones!
