The buildings were made with hood firstly. There was certainly a little or great church, dependind of the importance of the village. There was also the town hall depending also of the importance of the village or town and that building laid most of the time on the great place were stood a market.
For security, the town or village was build near a caslte where lived the lord of the country and that guy had an army and could protect the inhabitants by let them enter the caslte in case of attack. There was aslo protection walls around the town/village and watching towers for security. The town's autorities had to pay for that wall and find guys to stay on it at night for security.
