Best to wait 'til after the divorce is final so you are completely free and clear. Most people need some recovery time, depending on how "ugly" the divorce is and how long you were married. Personally, I would not knowingly date anyone who was still technically married--Personally, I broke off a relationship because I found out he was not yet divorced, and am better and stronger for it.

in an ideal world you would wait till divorced..but most dont. it depends on each situation ,how friendly are you with the ex? do you have kids? is the ex likely to be very upset and make life difficult? does the ex hope for reconciliation? and what is the new partner like? sometimes the new partner is the one that causes all the trouble not the exes. if you are maicable with ex and you feel they have moved forward also, i would just be honest and say to them you have met someone and would like to date them...the worst thing to do is not tell them and sneak around, then they feel betrayed anyway that you thought so little of them to be honest.

you can "legally" date anyone anytime. "appropriateness" depends on your own view or the circumstances, i guess. i waited a while before dating after my separation because of my children.

As long as the papers have been filed, and you are no longer living together I say to each his own. As long as you are both clear about not being with each other anymore.
