I just received a bill from AOL for TWX service. I haven't used AOL for over two years! I am now a Yahoo person. They insist I never cancelled my account. I think that someone, possibly an inside person of AOL is trying to get money from my account.

Here's a story about a phisher. Personally, I've gotten ones from banks I've never had an account with. If in doubt, call a number on AOL's web site, not the one on the e-mail.

The second link is a public complaint that might be closer to the notice you got.

BTW, back when AOL had dropped connection problems (over a decade ago -- not enough dial-in numbers), I made up the following palindrome: Loaded 'Net ended AOL.

Look / Search the Internet. It's full of stories like these about AOL. Also check out the BBB site. There's a ton of people who have experienced your same problem and more. Don't pay it. Send them a note to that effect and keep an eye on your credit card statements for at least the next 6 months.

I also cancelled AOL over a year or two ago. Received call 2 weeks ago saying I owed them money. Said I never cancelled. Told them were to put there bill. He says he will send it to collections. I said whatever.

That has happened to me before as well. Don't pay it. I sent a note back on the bill that I did not owe it and after 2 months they stopped sending a bill and its not on my credit report either because I checked.
