I am talking about the CONCEPT of Human Memory (not just alzheimers or disease). I like Norman Rockwells America, Thomas Kinkades (the painter?) America, and music and culture of the 60s, 50s, 40s, 30s, etc. Why is it America cannot hold on to it's stronger aspects and those better aspects of are now only seen through the lens our grandparents gave us. Our great great grandparents could not see into the future as we can see into their past. NO! i would not want polio or bad healthcare or the other suffering. REMEMBER the movie BLADE RUNNER-it dealt with the concept of memory (versus machine). Are half of americans, or the 1/2 the human race, machines? Will World War Three erupt as a result of memory versus non-memory?

Your premise oversimplifies the matter. It's not that we do or do not have memories of the past, it's that we have a memory of the past mixed in with nostaliga for a mythologized past that didn't exist.
This applies to liberals and conservatives alike. Liberals may be oversimplifying the progress made during the 60's like the Civil Rights movement and the counterculture movement. Similarly, some conservatives may wax nostalgic about a social order and unity which was more stable and harmonious than people realize.
So liberals forget that the social experimentation during the 60's and 70's represented freedom for some and trauma and alienation for others. Hippies enjoyed it, soldiers returning from Vietnam were not so lucky. Similarly, the social harmony of the post-WWII years was not equally available to everyone, like African Americans in the South did not all fare so well.
So America is being divided, just in a manner more complicated than your question suggests. Thanks for asking an interesting and thought provoking question.

Yes, it is. ^_^
But the problem is simpler than that.
We are being divided into a nation that 1) Can't help but remember our difficulties, and 2) another one that *forgets everything* whenever the Bosses and Massuhs tell them to (mainly to cover up their abuses of power).
Surely you can see how it would be bad to be on either side.
If you can't stop remembering your pains and troubles and difficulties for even one moment....aside from *dying by suicide* when the negativity and depression become too much, you also end up not having the time or energy or wealth to give back to society and *contribute anything of positive worth*. This in turn makes issues of the poverty gap even more extreme, harsh....and depressing. But....
If you forget everything and anything just because The Boss Says So....never mind for the moment that you end up *giving him permission* to abuse you indefinitely, you also end up *throwing away* the Baby with the Bathwater. You do end up forgetting your education, your history, your culture, your family, your identity.....and eventually, yourself.
Either way it's bad. Either way, you end up more a destructive *thing* than a positive human being of worth. Either you end up being so consumed with the pain that you become a suicidal anarchist....or a nihilist who just pisses his life away on decadence and self-indulgences. Or you end up a Zombie, a Good Little Drone who answers the phone, "so, do you want some McFries with that McBurger?"
The Question is not just, "Do you have memory?" The Question is also, "Who is the master of your memory?", which fits right into the concept of Locus of Control. If you have control, you are in mastery of your destiny to some point and this includes your memories....
But if you are never *allowed* the slightest bit of control by society and its Parasitic Profit Centers (who make a living and a career out of *exploiting* problems, not solving them), then guess what.....yeah, you have those who don't master their memories, and those who let *another* dictate their memories (and eventually their thoughts) *to them*.
Good Question....I needed one that got me thinking again. ^_^ Thanks for your time!

wtf??
I don't think that America is being divided into memories or no memories....Its just that some memories are more distant and thats why its important to write it down so that it can be passed to future generation...
IMO, WW3 will happen because of dumbsh*ts like Bush who we, the American Population, (but not me, I voted for Kerry&Gore) put him in office. Crappy political leaders will give us WWIII.

Yes. And those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. For example, we are currently in another cultural war in Asia.

I don't get what you meant by memories and non-memories. It will be good if the question is rephrased.
