I have recently ended my long friendship with Intel processors and switched to AMD. Even though I am no neophyte regarding computers I find myself in the need to ask this question: Does the 3700 number in my Athlon 64 (2.2 mhz) processor mean that it is as fast as an Intel Pentium 4 processor (3.7 mhz)?

Give me some technical opinions, Thanks!

Probably closer to a P4 3.2Ghz performance wise.

Simply put: Not in any aspect

More in-depth: 3700 is a model name, like the focus is a car or Stratocaster is a type of guitar. What really matters the actual Clock speed (measured commonly, as you named, in GHz). But don't be fooled: even though the AMD chips have lower clock speeds than nearly every Intel chip worth buying, they are superior because all their other components (FSB speed and 64 bit technology to name a couple) are better than the components in the Intel chip. In terms of clock speed, the intel chip is much faster (+50%), but the performance, the way the chip is actually used, is much better in an AMD chip

NO all that number means is that the speed that things go into you processor is faster not anything to do with Mhz
