How could this not be be taken for the humor (for lack of a better word) intended? I did say "not really, this is nonsense" Im sorry but Im a bit annoyed.

Think Maybe our husbands really do own us?
Not really, thats nonsense, but look at this:
We take their last names
We take their driver license number (theirs stays the same, our first few letters turn into theirs).
Before marriage we are miss or ms and after we are mrs, they are always mr. We become Mr's.

Thats the point. I dont consider myself owned, nor am I treated as though Im owned. It was simply an observation made from a sexist view.

Yep, I agree all around, I was 15 when I met my partner, we didn't marry at that age, but we could have? Cos we're still together, we married at age 33!!!!! So made no difference to me except the name change, just did it for the kids, that's all. Good luck and work thru all problems, be loving, be kind, and do to your partner, what you would like him do for you. :)

She can't make you get one, but she can refuse to do anything but feed and clothe you for the next 2 years and then kick you and the baby to the curb once you turn 18. It seems a lot of the people here forget that. But, why would you want to stick an innocent baby with a life of not having enough money and probably a broken home? Not that that's guaranteed, but it's likely. The odds of a 30 year old being with the same guy she was sleeping with at 16 are pretty slim, and the odds that 2 teenage parents are gonna make big bucks are even lower. Personally I'm against abortion, but I'm very much for adoption. It's harder than abortion but sometimes the adult responsible thing to do it the harder thing. Someday, with a college degree and a good job and even a house of your own, a baby would have a much brighter future. It seems like it's all about love right now, but becoming a mother just because it's what YOU want even if it's not best for the baby is actually selfish. It's also probably why your mom doesn't think you're ready.

It is actually quite common place for wives not to change their names after marriage. This of course would mean that the first letter of you license does not change either. You would also not be known as a Mrs but as a Ms. Personally I took my husbands last name because we were starting a new life together and creating our own family and I felt that created more of a unity especially if you are going to have kids so every one has the same last name.

Umm..what is the question here ??. I don't get what your asking here. Anyways if your in a relationgship or getting married thinks should be 50/50...It's a custom to take the husbands last name. I know awomen who still uses her last name. Nothing wrong with that.. i guess its whatever the couple is comfortable with. It's really no big deal.

its not that the husband owns the wife
its that the male side of the family gets continued
a woman is married into a mans family, not the other way around
