You make some very valid points. And I think, unfortunately, that an "average Joe" would never stand a chance against the political machine that is funded by large corporations who contribute to a candidate's campaign for the sole purpose of getting favors once they person is elected.
An "average Joe" could never compete financially. Sadly, money is everything in politics. It's hideously obvious that good ideas and good morals don't mean anything in campaigning.

Yes Sir,
It can be done. Our 7th President of the U.S., who's name is Andrew Jackson, was the people's man. His time of presidency was filled with things to benefit the common men. In fact, his era was sometime referred to as the, "Era of the Common Man". He was all about spreading political people to all people, poor and rich, and so a new idea was formed. It was, "Jacksonian Democracy". Jacksonian Democracy means the spreading of political power. Jackson even dressed like a common man. Even during his Inaugural Addresses, he had people running all over the White House. It was not a formal event, such as the other presidents have it. If you notice all the "famous" and "rich" people are like always in the first row during speeches or Inaugural Addresses, but that didn't happen when Jackson became elected. People were drinking and getting the White House dirty. As a matter of fact, Jackson couldn't stay in the White House on his first day because it was so messy.
Hope this inspires you.

no way man this country will always be ruled by rich people who are publically popular and I wait for the day someone actually becomes president who actually CARES. i think this country needs a president from the streets, you know, like all the best rappers some from the streets, just maybe its the same with presidents? if someone like that becomes president this country will finally realize the more important things (RAINFORESTS PRODUCE 40% OF THE WORLDS OXYGEN! SO WHAT ARE WE GAINING BY CUTTING THEM DOWN??) but still we seriously need a president from the streets r something, but we are getting there, at least its not just white men anymore, and we have a diverse community of candidates.

The reason that rich people become president is because the many of the same qualities that make a good president also make one successful in the private sector.
Honestly, I'd never vote for someone who didn't have the intelligence, people skills, and motivation to be a millionaire.

Support John Edwards for president. He certainly did not grow up with a silver spoon in his mouth. If adversity builds character, then John Edwards should be a giant.

Sure, it happens all the time where people become president from humble origins:
Andrew Johnson
Harry Truman
Ronald Reagan
Bill Clinton

No, not only is it about having funds, but it's also about popularity. Look at Evan Bayh. He would be a great candidate, but doesn't have the national recognition needed.

Clinton was an average Joe. You just need to get well known enough to raise the funding.
