I haven't seen any of the movies but I bought a doll of Aragorn (Strider) for my retarded cousin last Christmas. I was just wondering what the whole Aragorn Strider thing was all about.

Aragorn is his actual name, given by his parents, Arathorn and Gilraen.
Strider is a name given to him by the people of Bree, and it makes for a convenient cover, so he uses it. It's the name the Hobbits are introduced to him with.
His name as king in Quenya (high Elven) is Elessar Telcontar.
Over the years, as he wandered the lands and served with different rulers, he took other names.

Because he is keeping his identity as a Aragorn secret. I can't really go into detail if you haven't seen the films without spoiling the plot for you. He has different names to the different groups, but to be Aragorn carries a lot of weight and responsibility - that he may or may not want.

Strider is his Ranger name... he took that when he turned his back on his inheritance, heir to the throne of Gondor. Eventually he became Aragorn and became King of Gondor.

He is called by a different name in each new land that he enters. He actually has more names than just those two. This may be to protect his identity or simply because he rarely gives his real name and people just call him by whatever is convenient.
