Vision is not entirely necessary to create art. For example, the music of Stevie Wonder is an art form. And literature, especially poetry, is as well, and requires no ability to see. It is more about visualizing with your mind, heart and imagination.

On a more complex level, there are various media that art can be created from, including but now limited to:

Ceramics, sand, cloth, metal and several other things that can be primarily texture based.

Wow! This could be cool. Do you mean art that a blind person could enjoy? Or Art made from a blind person?

I've heard of art that has been made by blind people. They are taught about color, taught about mixing colors, and then monochromatics. ART IS NOT TAUGHT, ART IS NOT LEARNED, ART is experienced. That means you don't have to see to make art. And the creations made could be phenominal. What an interresting thing it would be to see it too.

Of course it is possible for blind people to create art. It is questionable that they would be able to successfully execute their "vision" of the artwork they imagine, especially if they have been blind since birth.

The exception to this would be sculpture.

I thought about this several years ago, and wondered what I would do if I were blind.

I thought it might work to use a thin sheet of copper or something, and burnish one side with a rounded point on a stylus. they could use a padded velvet board to cushion it while they worked. The picture could be a drawing of texture and raised lines, etc...

I think it would work. Any entrepreneurs out there?

just send me a copy if you make one!

Yes, they have an imagination. They can visualize things in their head just like you or I could. Even if they have never ever seen anything in the world, it doesn't mean they haven't been in it. They can make pictures in their mind about what it might look like and try to create those pictures on a canvas. It wouldn't be easy, but it is possible.

Some legally blind people can see but do not have the correct color or depth perception. They can be artistic even if they can't see clearly as you and me. Here is a site of one such lady and her work is awesome! Check it out!

what is art? interpretation right? with some of the crap you people call art, I wish I was blind. is music not art? are sculptors not art? heck I'll bet blind people even enjoy a good movie every now and then. as far as creating Art? Picasso had sight, Salvadore Dali had sight.......I suppose being Stoned makes you a legitimate Artist.

As I gaze upon your question, I cannot really see it as a possibility.
