It is not genetic and does not have to do with where you cut it. This is a healing process and how it fells off ....etc. So there is no way to know or influence this.

None of my kids had their cords cut very close to the body and 1 is an innie and the other 2 are outies. I definately do not believe it is genetic since my hubby and I both have innies.

Where the cord is cut, plays no roll in whether the baby will have an inny or an outty. The cord falls off, and nature does the rest.

close to the body will be an innie. We asked our ped to cut it closer to the body (my OB said that it would make the belly button inner) and our little girl has a beautiful inner belly button. Both my husband and I are European and have innies, and we wanted our baby to have one too they look nicer, at least to us. Also for some reason the stub falls off faster if it’s closer to the body. Ours fell of in 4 days.

No, 'innies' or 'outies' are genetic goofy!
