I used to work at a UAW facility. The employees made great money and benefits, but the workers HATED working there. They would not leave because they got used to the income. Most lived in nice houses and had new cars, but they hated working there. They were miserable. For many of the people, they often worked 12 hours a day, 7 days per week to rake in the money. For what? They were too tired to enjoy anything from the money they made. Even worse, they got used to the overtime pay and were unable to live below that income level when the overtime ran out. As a result, they now were in huge amounts of debt.
At the same time, I know people who work for $8 or $9 an hour and like their jobs. They are challenged, the company is a supportive environment, but the nature of the work and the profit margin of the business is such that they cannot afford to pay a higher amount to their workers.
While I don't want to work for $8 or $9 an hour, I would prefer working in an environment where I was appreciated, the employer made the place fun to work at, and I could go home and enjoy my family and not be thinking about work. After all, I work to make a life for my family, not to make my job my life.

Well, this one hits close to home for me.
I know that my "calling" in life is to be in youth ministry full-time, and that is a job that doesn't necessarily pay well (even if you have a degree for it). But honestly, it's what's been on my heart to do ever since I was in high school, and I know I wouldn't be fully content or satisfied doing anything else.
I'm a financial aid officer at a local school here, and I get students in my office all the time who say that they're making plenty of money where they are, but that they absolutely HATE their current jobs! That's why they're leaving said jobs, and coming back to school--so that they can be where their hearts are.
And I know that some people would say that they would rather work somewhere they hated and get paid big money for it, but you can't actually answer that question truthfully unless you've been there. I have been there, and it's just not worth it. :)

I would rather be poor but love my job, because I will stay healthy with no stress.
Work the job you hate only make you rich in the short run. You will pile up stress and end up in the hospital.

I would do the job I hate for a while. The stress this creates can be mitigated and handled, and there are positives in every situation so I would look for those.
Then when I had made enough , I would quit and go do something I love to do.
Most people want it now - i.e. the easy job. They are not prepared to do the hard work and take the long term approach. That is why people like me have the advantage over the other 97%.

I would choose working at a job i like and be poor. Not so poor that i have to use welfare or something. But doing a job i hate is very boring and just plain not worth the money.

I'd prefer doing a job I loved. While being poor. Over a job I'd hate while being rich.

A job I love and be poor. I would rather be happy doing something I love for 8+ hours a day than to be doing something I hate for most of my day. I would never want to be rich anyway. It messes with your mind.

Some people would say the key to getting rich is to do what you love and the success will follow. How successful can you be in a job that you hate?
